From Sea to Shining Estuary - Field Courses at the Sea Lab

With the construction of the new Peter V. Wiese Marine Science Hall, research space for University Programs faculty and students has almost doubled. A recent dedication ceremony was held to thank the many supporters and benefactors of the new construction, including the family of the late Pete Wiese. Pictured left are his wife Mrs. Marty Wiese, his grandson Mr. William Varley “Po” Wiese and his son Mr. William Vanderwater “Bill” Wiese, who were on hand to unveil a portrait of this great friend of the DISL that now graces the building’s lobby. Contributors to the building include Alabama Power Foundation; The Monte L. Moorer Foundation; The National Science Foundation; and the University of South Alabama. Representatives from Sen. Richard Shelby, Sen. Jeff Sessions and Cong. Jo Bonner were present as Dr. George Crozier thanked all of them for their continual support of the DISL’s education and research mission.
