Coastal Living Magazine

Citing our “passion for teaching diverse groups in a unique, hands-on way,” Coastal Living Magazine has presented the Dauphin Island Sea Lab its 2004 Coastal Education Award.

Coastal Living Magazine officials praise the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and its staff for their dedication to educating a population ranging from kindergarten children to Ph.D. students to Elderhostel participants to the general public in its aquarium, the Estuarium.

“The methods and message of the Lab and its dedicated staff are unparalleled evidence of tireless efforts to safeguard our priceless coastlines,” say Coastal Living officials. “Congratulations [to the Sea Lab] on the tremendous collaborative effort that produces this one-of-a-kind educational experience.”

“National recognition certainly is rewarding, especially after the hard work and creativity that our entire staff puts into our programs,” commented Executive Director George Crozier. “But we also hope our local and Alabama officials are aware of the impact we have on their constituents’ knowledge of the environment and marine science. We were created by the Alabama legislature to serve that purpose, and I think we have more than met that goal as continue to raise the bar for ourselves.”

The Sea Lab was featured in Coastal Living Magazine’s January/February 2004 issue. Coastal Living Magazine is a national publication with a readership of 2.9 million.
