Sea Lab Ripples...

Thanks to the Sea Lab community and our neighbors the U.S. Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island, we collected 27 units of much-needed blood.  Staff member Aleada Nicholson, who organized the American Red Cross blood drive, was delighted by the turnout.  "These donations demonstrate what a giving group of people we collaborate with," she noted.

Special thanks to Trey Alderman, volunteer firefighter on Dauphin Island, for conducting the Sea Lab's Fire Safety and Prevention course.  Sea Lab staff learned how to actually use those omnipresent fire extinguishers around campus.

Mark September 22 and 23 on your calendars for "EstuaryLive," a live interactive Web event from 10am to 1pm CST.  Thousands of K-12 students will be logging on to www.estuaries.gov "to experience, in real-time, a field trip to the unique habitat of an estuary; give students the opportunity to compare different estuaries around the country; take students on an exploratory trip to the estuary with the opportunity to interact with research scientists, education professionals, and natural resource management professionals; increase students' understanding of estuarine ecological, social and economic principals; and to provide a resource for further information," according to NOAA's press release.  One of the five National Estuary Programs featured will be our own Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, sharing air time with the Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve at Moss Point, MS.
