Spotlight On: Information Technology

From designing complicated software to meet the growing demands of research scientists to restoring a jammed printer from those same Ph.D.’s, Information Technology (IT) does it all with great skill and remarkable calm.

It’s never a dull day for the DISL’s IT department, but even this busy pace has its rewards. “Most universities and college campuses do not allow the IT staff to work as closely with the researchers as we do on a daily basis. We can really see how our skills help a researcher’s program. We can go out on the boats and see the software in action; we can watch as a scientist collects data, render the data graphically and output them in an easily-read format. This opportunity to work so intimately with the scientists is a reward unto itself,” says IT Manager Melissa Mills.
