Spotlight On:
The Vessel Crew

The Vessel Crew (l-r): Mate Clark Lolar; Captain and Vessel Ops Supervisor Tom Guoba; Captain Russell Wilson; and Captain Rodney Collier

From spotting dolphins riding the waves or wading in chest-high waters to retrieve the research vessels after a hurricane(!), the vessel crew does it all with experience, savvy and good humor. Whether the trip calls for educating a group of excited eighth-graders or providing assistance to research scientists plumbing the depths, the vessel crew puts safety first and fulfills the wide-range of needs. “I think the most rewarding aspect of this job is when I ask one of the researchers or graduate students how their trip went and they tell me everything went well,” says Captain and Vessel Ops Supervisor Tom Guoba.
