DockWatch Expansion

The first year of DockWatch, the Sea Lab’s jellyfish monitoring program, has been a resounding success. Volunteers have faithfully taken measurements on various parameters and have logged the results on http://DockWatch.disl.org.

On Saturday, April 27, DockWatch scientist Dr. Monty Graham will meet with the volunteers to show them the preliminary results of their data, as well as demonstrate a new computer program for their use. As a thank-you for their hard work, volunteers will also have lunch and go on a research cruise aboard the RV A.E. Verrill in the waters of Mobile Bay.

Now DockWatch is about to enter an expansion phase. Thanks to an additional grant from EPA’s Gulf of Mexico Program, the program will

expand into Louisiana and Florida (we are currently in Mississippi and Alabama).

If you know of someone in those areas who would like to volunteer, please refer them http://DockWatch.disl.org for more information.

If you go to the beach or spot in the water any jellyfish, please report it on our web site at http://DockWatch.disl.org (go to "Submit Sighting" then use the "One time sighting" form and follow the instructions), or email us at DockWatch@disl.org, or call our DockWatch hotline (334) 861-7565. We appreciate any information you can give us.
