| Honor that Special Steward: Gulf of Mexico Award Notice | ||
"We already have more than 40 entries representing all five states bordering the Gulf of Mexico," said Terry Hines Smith, public affairs specialist at the Gulf of Mexico Program Office located at Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Miss. Two years ago the Gulf of Mexico Program partnership developed the Gulf Guardian awards as a way to recognize and honor the businesses, community groups, individuals, and agencies that are taking positive steps to keep the Gulf healthy, beautiful and productive. Each year first, second, and third place winners are awarded in each of six categories: business, government, civic/nonprofit organizations, youth/education, partnerships, and individual. First place winners will have a three-minute video produced of their projects that will be aired at the awards ceremony. All winners receive a substantial marble memento recognizing their environmental stewardship. For those without access to the internet, you can request a hard copy of the application by telephone at (228) 688-1159, by FAX at (228) 688-2709, by email at hines-smith.terry@epa.gov, or by regular mail at: Gulf of Mexico Program, Attn: Gulf Guardian Award Application, Bldg. 1103, Room 202, Stennis Space Center MS 39529-6000. |
